ABOUT THE ACADEMY OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

The Academy of Architecture and Design focuses on providing broad transferable skills in all aspects of designing and erecting buildings and other physical structures.

In addition to the construction trades, Electrical, HVAC and Masonry students will learn about management, finance, technical and production skills, labor issues, health and safety regulations, and environmental issues as they relate to the building trades. The capstone project of the program is a student built house that engages the efforts of students across the County in construction, landscaping, drafting/CAD, HVAC, interior design and computer networking.

Activities in the Engineering pathway of the Academy are also hands-on and project based. Students learn how to use the same industry-leading 3D design software that’s used by companies like Intel, Lockheed Martin and Pixar. Students design, test and construct circuits and devices such as smart phones and tablets. The culminating capstone project is a collaborative effort among engineering students and reviewed by Engineering professionals in the community.
